A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?”Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.”It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down!

TAL (True Asian Leaders) High School Mentorship Program is looking for mentors, interns, tutors, and drivers!

We NEVER teach, preach, and leave.

Make BIG DIFFERENCES in the TAL mentees’ lives! If you remember the STRUGGLE of applying to college, or not even considering higher education as an option, then YOU can give back and support our mentees!!

So if you’re free SUNDAYS from 11am-4pm, APPLY APPLY APPLY!!

*hit me up if you’re interested ;)

*disclaimer as a very tired co-coordinator of a high school mentorship program: spent hella hours making memes to recruit and grab students into joining, and hopefully it’s working. personally messaging, following up through texts, trying to be convincing as possible, trying to make sunday sound like funday, and having your heart break a little when you check your e-mail to find no new applicants, sucks. a lot. we only have 3 new applicants so far, meaning 13 mentors to cater to 20 mentees ;( i hope people do it for the mentees, because most of them are seniors now, and need all the help they can get with college apps. gotta break the tal curse of having mentors die out during the generation’s last year, and finish MUTHAFUQIN STRONG!!

i had so many dreams about memes last night haha

signal boost! dooo iiitt

(also, worrrrk. i see you chiravann!)

Talk to me, I’m in TAL :)

JOIN & SPEND TIME WITH ME EVERY SUNDAAAY<3

I am thankful for…

  • being waitlisted in most of my courses in telebears because it means that I am enrolled in one of the world most prestigous university and that I have the chance to learn from outstanding professors either this semester or the next.
  • being lost during lectures, being confused when reading, being frustrated when writing because it means that I am still learning and improving upon myself.
  • waking up early in the morning, spending money and more than 3 hours commuting back and forth to volunteer because it means that I can and am able to contribute to a great cause.
  • having my schedule jam-packed with classes, work, internships, programs, meetings and socials because it means that I have a purpose in life.
  • getting rejected from something I been working toward for an extended period of time because it means I am only one step closer to what I am truly meant to do.
  • people constantly complaining to me about their problems and asking me for my advice because it means they trust me and believe I am the one who can help ease their misery
  • my parents calling me every single day to check up on me, to make sure I have enough food to eat and that my health is in good condition because it means that someone back at home misses me, cares about me and loves me.

problems aren’t really problems, they’re just a simple reminder of what you have (:

Let’s get lost in the city.
Cellphones off, no maps, no plans .. just you, me, and the city lights. Let’s walk aimlessly and stumble upon late night cafes and hole in the wall restaurants. Let’s find art exhibits, hip hop joints, record stores, fashion boutiques, and buy token things to remember the night. Let’s eat the food off the carts, and take pictures of everything. Everything, darling — everything.
Glance at me from time to time and wrap your arms around me if you sense a mere shiver. Don’t offer me your jacket, since I would hate for you to feel discomfort, but offer me the warmth of your presence. Let’s pose, run, skip, jump, climb, walk — to nowhere and everywhere. Let’s lose ourselves, only to find ourselves yet again. Let’s strike conversations with all walks of life, and meet people along this journey.
Catch me staring at you, and smirk — okay? Let me know you caught me at the act, but assure me with a slanted grin that you reciprocate my feeling of pride in having you by my side.
Let’s forget about the past, get lost in the present, and daydream about our future.
Let’s find the perfect downtown loft, and pretend to go “home” to it. Let’s greet the door-man like old friends, and ask about a resident that doesn’t exist. Let’s just see if he pretends to know what we’re talking about, just to remain polite and professional. Let’s walk away laughing, and stumble off like drunks in the night.
Let’s find a fountain and toss pennies in with cynical mindsets. Let’s make pointless wishes for millions of dollars, perfect futures, and a happily everlasting relationship. Let’s make smart remarks about the absurdity of our actions and express our doubts in the actuality of our wishes coming true. Let’s have a witty banter laced with sarcasm and quick humor, but continue throwing pennies in regardless. Let’s be hypocrites, but hopeless romantics at the same time. Let’s dream — realistically.
Let’s get lost in the city. You, me, and the city lights. Let’s get lost in the hustle and bustle of the sounds, and allow our hearts to beat with the bass of the night at hand. Let’s take pictures of every waking moment, as to not forget the night.
Let’s have a perfect night.
Just one.
You, me, and the city lights.

A quote from Haruki Marakumi (via givemehardlove)

(Source: thevoicesinsideher)

"And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When the storm is over, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm is all about."
